A Mountain Pine man on parole who allegedly tried to hide his identity and a Mountain Pine woman were arrested late Monday after drugs and paraphernalia were allegedly found in their vehicle following a traffic stop. Potts was also charged with misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance, marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and obstructing government operations.
Barnett was also charged with an additional felony charge of possession of drug paraphernalia, punishable by up to six years.
According to the probable cause affidavit, around p. Monday, Hot Springs police Sgt. Zac Rostan was patrolling the area of Central Avenue and Trivista Street when he saw a dark-colored Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck pull out of a parking lot behind his unit. Rostan noted as he would slow down, the truck would also, so he pulled over to allow the truck to pass and then followed it as it pulled onto Pond Street.
He noted the plate was expired so he finally stopped it in the parking lot of Manor Apartments on West St. Louis Street. He made contact with the male driver and noted he was "sweating heavily" even though the temperature was below 60 degrees. The man claimed he didn't have a driver's or other ID, but gave Rostan a name and date of birth.
A computer check showed the name he gave him had a failure to appear warrant, so he was taken into custody.
A further check revealed that the tattoos the driver had did not match the tattoos the man he claimed to be had and he was eventually identified as Potts, who had a warrant through the Arkansas Parole Board. His passenger, identified as Barnett, gave Rostan her ID and it was determined she had a suspended driver'sso the vehicle had to be towed.
During an inventory of the truck prior to towing, officers found a baggie with 0. In searching Barnett, officers reportedly found a syringe in her purse. In the vehicle, officers reportedly found two sets of digital scales with residue on them and several empty baggies. They also found a small baggie of marijuana, 0. In addition to the felony and misdemeanor charges, Potts was cited for driving on a suspendedno liability insurance and driving a vehicle without tags.
